Transfer Admissions

Let's take your education to a higher degree!

If you’re a community college student or simply deciding to change institutions, Bloomsburg University is a great choice for taking your education to a higher degree. As a BU student, you’ll be taught by expert faculty who know your name with access to facilities of one of the largest and best-equipped universities in Eastern Pennsylvania.

And when you graduate, you’ll join a network of more than 70,000 active alumni! The preparation you receive and connections you make will give you a foundation for success in your career — and in life.

Applying is easy!

  • Complete an Online Transfer Application (Paper Transfer Application) and $35 non-refundable fee to our Office of Admissions.
  • Request official high school transcripts to be sent by the school to our Office of Admissions.
  • Arrange to have SAT or ACT test scores sent to BU (if transferring with less than 24 credits). If you graduated high school more than two years ago, you do not need to submit SAT or ACT scores.
  • Request official college transcripts from all colleges and/or universities you attended. Transcripts should be sent directly from the issuing source to our Office of Admissions.

Applicants who have earned more than 24 credits will be evaluated for admission based on their college transcripts. Upon completion of 24 credits, SATs or ACTs are not required. Students who have not completed 24 credits at the college level will be evaluated on their high school and college transcripts and must meet the minimum admissions guidelines for freshman.

When to apply? Transfer applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the major or semester reaches capacity and is closed. Apply early, as many majors fill up quickly and are very competitive.

Previously enrolled at BU? Then, you must complete the readmission application.

Competitive Majors

These majors are competitive for transfers; so apply early for the best consideration. Final decisions will be made by June.

  • Audiology-Speech Pathology
  • Biology and Allied Health
  • Nursing - applications only reviewed for fall semesters. Deadline is March 1.

These majors are closed to or wait listed for transfers: ASL/Interpreting (wait list only) and Medical Imaging.

Transfer Requirements

Any student in good standing with their current/previous college or university is eligible to transfer to BU. Due to large number of applicants, a GPA of 2.5 is preferable and is required for many majors. Transfer applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to be considered. BU's education major requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 for consideration.

Credit Evaluation — If you complete an A.A. or an A.S. degree from a PA Community College, and you transfer to a PASSHE university, this allows for the transfer of courses where the grades of C- and D are earned, provided the overall GPA is above a 2.0. If you are transferring from another PASSHE university, you must have a minimum 2.0 and 12 completed credits to transfer courses with a grade of a C- or D.

Courses taken at other institutions where a grade of C- or lower is earned will not transfer. BU will not accept credits earned by examination at other colleges. BU accepts CLEP general exams taken prior to transferring. CLEP subject examinations may be taken prior to or after transferring. BU will review AP scores, as well as official CollegeBoard scores for evaluation.

Your credits will count

Credits you’ve earned at a two-year or four-year college will count at BU. A preliminary evaluation of your credits will be completed once you are admitted.

Credits may transfer from institutions that are accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools/Commission on Higher Education or "its regional equivalent.” How the credits may fulfill a BU degree will be determined by our respective academic departments.

  • All new transfer students must meet the undergraduate graduation requirements.
  • Course Equivalency Search Tool is designed to allow you to search a course at another institution and immediately see BU's Equivalency.
  • You can also use pacollegetransfer.com to help you determine how your credits may transfer to BU. Not all colleges may be listed, or all courses. However, this is a great resource to get you started.

Articulation Agreements

Dual admission programs at schools such as Bucks CCC, Luzerne and Lehigh County CC, Harrisburg Area CC, Montgomery CCC and Northumberland CC guarantee students admission to BU (excluding, but not limited to, nursing, American Sign Language, Engineering 3+2) upon completion of an associate's degree (A.A. or A.S.) in an approved major between the community college and BU. Students must also meet the standard admission requirements for the BU major (i.e. 3.0 minimum GPA for all education majors). Students should contact the transfer center or advising area at the community college to start the dual admission process.

Program-to-Program (P2P) — Students who have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree in certain majors, from a Pennsylvania community college, may be admitted into the parallel major at BU (i.e. computer science-to-computer science), will complete the last 60 credits at BU. Admission is based on GPA.

STEM Transfer — As a student you'll find opportunities for technology internships, health care clinical experiences or science research, including undergraduate research opportunities. These experiences will give you an edge in your career, and along the way you'll be able to take pride in making a difference — for the environment or community.
